Neighborhood Watch Program
We are residents who look out for each other. Through safety training and other events, we become more prepared to help our neighbors in a time of need and to help the city identify areas that need additional infrastructure. We encourage you to know your neighbors - hang out in your front yards, meet your neighbors, exchange phone numbers, and create a relationship of trust. Let your neighbors know when you will be out of town so they can watch your property, and you do the same for them.
Neighborhood Watch is not just on our block - we look out for all residents all over the city. If we see someone who needs assistance or resources, or something that should be reported, we take appropriate action.
We are not the police. We do not approach or intervene. We report situations and let the professionals do their job.
Learn when to call 911 or call the non- emergency number (510) 577-2740.
To start a Neighborhood Watch group:,
Ask your neighbors to join you in creating a neighborhood watch program. Have the interested neighbors sign up on our Get Involved form. We would like block teams, but also welcome teams over several blocks.
You can sign up directly with the city for a neighborhood watch program at: Neighborhood Watch | San Leandro, CA
To have CAC create/monitor your neighborhood watch team please use our JOIN button
If you are the block captain, please email support@slcac.org with your contact information and the names of the people in your neighborhood watch.
Plan your first meeting. CAC can work with you to coordinate and discuss how we can best support you.
Your Beat Police Officer can be requested to join the meeting. The police do not create the team, they do not train the team, they do not run your team meetings.
Be clear that they can only attend if they are not on a police call. Do not expect them to do the above it is not part of what the police do.
CAC will help with the set-up, coordination, training at any meeting you set up when asked.
You can also work with CAC to schedule Neighborhood Watch meetings. Topics can include creating a neighborhood communication plan, and addressing new and ongoing concerns, or we can invite outside speakers/trainers.
Community Action Council will be there to support your neighborhood watch team through training, communication, and events. You will never be without support!
Contact us at support@slcac.org with any questions, concerns, or to invite CAC to your meeting to do presentations or trainings. You can also explore the National Neighborhood Watch Program to learn more about Neighborhood Watch.
